Team Candor

Candor is a Latin term used to describe a natural, untempered beauty, or purity. The Candor House crest is a blue ram. The symbology of the ram comes from the story of The Sacrifice of Isaac, told in Genesis 22. In it, Abraham’s commanded sacrifice of his son, Isaac, is interrupted by an angel of the Lord, who lets Abraham know the commanded sacrifice was a test. Instead, Abraham offers as a sacrifice a nearby ram, who was caught in a thicket. The symbolism continues in Leviticus, as the ram is listed as one of few animals acceptable to God for sacrifice. The Candor Ram is a symbol of an earthly purity, onto which our sins may be placed and forgotten, and from which we can praise, worship, and honour God. The Candor House motto is Pure in Heart, and their house verse is Matthew 8:5.

Team Fidei

Fidei is a Latin word directly translated as faith. The Fidei House crest is a yellow lion with its mouth shut. The animal directly relates to the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den, told in Daniel 6. In it, the prophet Daniel is caught by his political rivals praying to God during a time of religious persecution in Babylon, under the rule of king Darius. Darius, sympathetic to Daniel but unable to save him, then reluctantly forces Daniel into a den of lions, calling out to him “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you,” (Daniel 6:16, NIV). But when Daniel is found unharmed by Darius the next morning, he informs Darius that God sent an angel to shut the lion’s mouths, saving him. The Fidei Lion is a symbol of Daniel’s faith in God, that even in the face of death, he stayed true to God. The Fidei House motto is Faithful to God, and their house verse is

2 Corinthians 5:7.

Team Unitas

Unitas is a Latin word meaning unity. The Unitas House crest is a red wolf. While a wolf has often been the symbol for unity because of their closely kept social hierarchy, the biblical inspiration for the Unitas Wolf comes from Isaiah 65. In it, the prophet Isaiah repeats God’s plan for a redeemed world, and the chapter ends with a series of analogies that includes “The wolf and the lamb will feed together,” (Isaiah 65:25, NIV). The Unitas Wolf is a symbol of the extent of God’s mercy and forgiveness, and how we are all, as sinners, united through Jesus’ sacrifice. The Unitas House motto is "United by Blood," and their house verse is Ephesians 2:13.

Team Veritas

Veritas is a Latin word meaning truthfulness, and it is derived from the name of the Roman goddess of truth. The Veritas House crest is a green eagle. The biblical inspiration for the Veritas Eagle comes from a variety of verses that describe the renewal that comes from God as being like on the wings of eagles, “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint,” (Isaiah 40:31, NIV). In the Gospel of John, the truth of the gospel is also described in a similar manner, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free,” “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God,” (John 8:32, John 1:1 NIV). The Veritas Eagle is a symbol of the power of the gospel, and the freedom given to those who believe. The Veritas House motto is Truth will Prevail, and their house verse is Proverbs 12:19.
