"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men."
- Luke 2:13-14
"Peace on Earth" is a phrase you see everywhere around Christmas time: cards, mugs, ornaments, pillows, and even ugly Christmas sweaters have it written in ornate red, green, or golden lettering. So what does "Peace on Earth" really mean?
Some may define it as the absence of hostility, conflict, or war between nations or individuals. Others claim that peace is a state of tranquillity, harmony, and contentment. Whatever their definition, most people long for some sense of inner peace and try to attain it through mindfulness, meditation, spending time in nature, or discovering their "true self." However, there is only one way to find the "peace that surpasses all understanding," and that is through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
"For to us a child is born, to us, a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6
As we enter this hectic holiday season, we can rest in the hope that no matter what happens, God will always provide us with his perfect peace and incomprehensible, unconditional love.
