May the 4th has just left us. It was a great day where many people participated in an international fan fiction event. The comics, books, movies and cast have all affected our childhoods in one way or another. I do believe that this is a good thing. A community built off shared enjoyment of something relatable, regardless of importance, creates connections between all who see, read or hear Star Wars. It creates memories and most importantly, it teaches an amazing lesson of good and evil. I know everyone expects me to talk about good and evil at this point, however, I’m not. There's something even more important, and yet still related that I’d like to discuss. Have you stayed true to what you believe?
I’ve seen it all over social media, heard it between friends, families and peers. There's a division between what you should and shouldn’t think, believe, act like, say, and do. It’s nothing new; it’s an old issue. Everyone has an opinion and believes that things should be one way or another. The issue I see is that Christians are becoming less and less grounded in their stances nowadays. The politics around the should and shouldn’ts have become increasingly more important in our society. Advocating for things I believe to be quite secular has become so prominent that to be “socially accepted,” many christians yield their personal convictions. The main issue right now is choice surrounding one’s body whether it be related to vaccination, abortion, or identity.
I would like to encourage you to stand firm in the faith and not yield to the pressures around you. Hold true to your values and don’t be afraid when that looks different from the crowd. Grounding yourself in God is an eternal journey, although at times it can be a hard and narrow road. Remember, God is for you. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
