Imagine you are sent on an impossible mission and you feel pinned. You’ve got two choices, fight or hide. Mercifully, reinforcements arrive. You have an escape, a second chance. Whether what you did was right or not, you were spared. God’s mercy is amazing. It pulls us through the hardest times, right before the breaking point. The Bible has many examples of what I just described. When Rahab hid the spies in the roof of her home; they were trapped, at a dead end, yet they were spared. Rahab turned out to be the protagonist, the hero of the story. The story of Jonah on the other hand, portrays a coward and antagonist who eventually listened to God and returned to Nineveh. Even though it may not appear like it at first glance, God’s mercy on Jonah was remarkable. What seemed like certain death by fish was used by God to save many lives.
Wednesday, March 9th is Stealth Day, a Spirit day. Everyone is encouraged to dress up like ninjas, wear camo or just blend in. Additionally, you can wear your colour shirt for points as well.
Stealth and hiding are sometimes associated with evil. Sometimes hiding and evasion can be used for God’s glory. We are encouraged to pray in secret to further develop a relationship with God. It is good to hide things of God (ie. People, literature, artifacts, secrets) from forces of evil as long as it isn’t sinful or blasphemous according to scripture. God gave us animals to rule over and stealthy hunting is often necessary for sustenance today. Rahab hid the spies and as a result was saved from death. Hiding yourself and things from God is never advisable and shady character is distasteful. Instead of hiding like Jonah, we can look to Rahab as an example of courage in the face of danger.
Taking a deeper step into this analogy; our society preys on everyone, especially Christians when it comes to our choices, speech and actions. The intent behind what we say, do and choose get twisted unrecognizably. Using the above examples to describe the word stealthy, we see 2 interpretations; one good, the other bad. I’d like to remind everyone that no matter what you do, knowing it’s right, you should never feel ashamed. There are 2 opposite views of this world, stay on the side of truth, sincerity, honesty and righteousness. Be more Like God; keep your intentions pure in all you do; they will start to align with Him.
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
